What are VOCs?

VOC detection being conducted in an industrial setting

You may have heard the word VOC recently if you’ve been searching for an air freshener for your business. Looking for an explanation? Then you’ve come to the right place. Let’s begin…

What does VOC stand for?

VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compounds.

What exactly are VOCs then?

Volatile Organic Compounds are organic chemicals that have a low boiling point. This means that they give out a high concentration of vapour pressure.

So what’s the problem with VOCs?

When VOCs are present in the air amongst us, our body breathes the compound created. This can lead to potential side effects like:
• Headaches
• Nausea
• Runny/itchy eyes, nose and throat
• Fatigue
• Dizziness

Of course, these health effects depend vastly on the Volatile Organic Compound used and the amount of exposure you’ve had, but wouldn’t it be nice not to be exposed to them in the first place? Well, that may be quite hard to do, as they’re everywhere!

Volatile Organic Compounds are automatically emitted from burning wood, gas and coal. Paint, glues, other solvents, and aerosol sprays contain them too, and that’s only scratching the surface! We are exposed to Volatile Organic Compound’s every day.

This is why it’s important to reduce our intake, as they can lead to side effects (listed above).

Thankfully, NWR Hygiene Group has two air fresheners that are completely VOC-exempt! They are the V-Air Solid and the V-Air Power Plus.

Both products provide an alternative aircare solution to protect your employees from further exposure to uncomfortable Volatile Organic Compounds. See how both products work below and thanks for reading!
